Photoshop 5.5 mostly done with dodge and burn tools and my trusty tablet.
Used an avs preset [link] - I have no idea which one - for the original pattern. Then just smudged, and dodged + burned and sharpened and blurred and airbrushed the image. I defected towards the end and used photos mostly thanks to [link] cheers guy! It was my intention to not use any special brushes, textures or photos but i had to finish it quick for one of my art majors. Maybe someday i'll finish it the way it was meant to be, so long as my hard disk doesn't blow up as has been the trend in recent times... *sigh*

This is one of those kind of very specific uber-detailed hit or miss images. It either works or it doesn't. I can't myself find any obvious critiques.. apart from wanting to remove and change a lot of 'elements' there is no "right" / "wrong" way to fix this. The composition is fixed and the ideas are totally random.. but a mech/organic "growth" was the goal and I think it worked.

..also yes there are a few 'real' things to be spotted here as I used all sorts of inspiration and resources, motorbike motor may well have been part of it. The idea of such images is to hint at familiar organic / mechanical forms without ever being an explicitly recogniseable form - although some parts are just like.. eyeballs or lungs or brains.
